Sunday's Easter Sermon now live on Pastor Andrew's blog... https://andrewmdavis99.blogspot.com/2019/04/believeand-be-amazed-easter-sermon.html
Good Morning Church & Friends!! What a glorious morning of Easter we had. We have finished the long, 40-days of Lent as we prepared our hearts and died to old ways of life to experience new life, hope, and joy on Easter!! As I write, the flowered cross out on the front porch is still pretty brilliant, a witness to the new life that Easter brings. What brings you life? What brings you hope? Where have you encountered the risen Christ? Spring is definitely in full bloom too!! It is a feast for the eyes to see the bright yellow forsythia bushes around the neighborhood, particularly behind Safeway, along with the pink, purple, yellow, and white flowers or blossoms on the trees around town, even while there is still a little snow on top of the mountain peaks. I decided to take the day after Easter off, as I usually do and with my dad in town, headed to Frenchman Lake. To our surprise, the lake is ice-free and accessible, as well as roaring over its spillway thanks to abundant snowfall. Another sign of new life among us, as we see our reservoirs replenished. While we didn't catch any fish (although I lost one), it was so nice to be outdoors and being able to see the new life around us, as everything is green. This coming Sunday, you will want to be there, as our youth group will be serving pancakes and sausage for breakfast, as this is their first fundraiser for future activities both here in town and on the road. It's by donation only. The pancakes will be from scratch, not boxed too!! Breakfast will be served from 8:30am-9:30am, then following breakfast, we will gather for worship in the sanctuary for worship as we celebrate Holy Humor. Please dress casually, as this is a light-hearted Sunday. Pastor Ray and I will be preaching, "A Funny Thing Happened" with scripture focus on Luke 24: 28-31. Have a GREAT week and see you Sunday, if not before!! Peace & Blessings, Pastor Andrew Tuesday (4/23): - 11:00am Stories of our Lives with Pastor Ray (Room 4; to reach Room 4, use the Church/High Street entrance and go up the stairs to the left; Room 4 is on the right) - 5:15pm Finance Committee (Church Office) - 7:00pm Chancel Choir (Sanctuary) - 7:00pm NA (Fireside Room) Wednesday (4/24): - 6:00pm Community Supper. “It’s Friday...but Sunday’s Comin.’”
On this Good Friday, the sanctuary will be open from 12-noon to 1:00pm for quiet prayer/meditation.
Had a beautiful, simple Maundy Thursday service this evening. Join us at Our Savior Lutheran Church across the street behind our campus for Good Friday worship at 7:00pm tomorrow night.
Good Morning Church & Friends!! Although it is Tuesday morning, I am still feeling very uplifted from Sunday morning's Palm/Passion Sunday worship as we walked with Jesus from Jerusalem, to the cross, and to the grave. It was a meaningful service for many there and the music by the J.A.M. Singers and choir made it even more meaningful. I am exceptionally proud of our children and youth too, as we had several who read (at the least minute too!) and because we did not have Sunday school this last Sunday, were well behaved too. I love it when our children and youth participate in worship, as our children and youth are not so much the future of the church as they are the here and now too. I look forward to continuing to include our youth and children in worship and in the overall life of the church. Holy Week is one of my favorite weeks, even if it is the equivalent to the Super Bowl for pastors and musicians. While we have extra services to plan for, play for, or lead, there's still something meaningful when we are fully engaged and immersed. Holy Week has many moods to it ranging from joyous and celebratory on Palm Sunday as Jesus enters Jerusalem, to sentimental when Jesus gathered with his disciples in the Upper Room before his betrayal and arrest, to sorrow and grief as he is tried then crucified, dead, and buried. While we oftentimes want to skip over the messy, sad, and ugly parts of the passion story, it is important that we experience it before the joy and hope of Easter. While we walked through Holy Week this past Sunday, I hope you will come to Maundy Thursday and Good Friday (details below) to fully experience the moods of Holy Week. It is the final week of our Lenten journey too, as we continue our way towards Easter. I look forward to seeing you throughout the week and in church Thursday night, Friday night, or Sunday morning!! Peace & Blessings, Pastor Andrew Holy Week Services/Activities: - Thursday, April 18, 6:00pm: Maunday Thursday Service in the Sanctuary with Our Savior Lutheran Church. Friday, April 19: - 12:00pm-1:00pm: The Sanctuary will be open for prayer/meditation and quiet time. - 3:30pm Children’s Stations of the Cross beginning and ending at Christ the King Episcopal Church. At every station, participants will receive a small token to help them commemorate the events of Good Friday. - 7:00pm Good Friday Service at Our Savior Lutheran Church. - Sunday, April 21, 10:00am: A joyful and festive celebration of Christ’s Resurrection.
